Smartphones straining parent-child relationships, vivo Switch Off study reveals average time spent on phones and more
The fifth edition of vivo Switch Off Research, conducted in collaboration with Cybermedia Research, reveals the impact of excessive smartphone use on parent-child relationships. While 70% of parents see smartphones as information hubs, concerns arise as children, starting at age 12, spend an average of 6.5 daily hours, leading to anxiety and emotional dependency. Parental worries focus on mental health (94%) and social skills (91%). The study notes strained interactions, with 75% of parents using phones during shared time. Despite challenges, 94% prioritize in-person interactions, offering hope for deeper family connections. The Switch Off 2023 initiative encourages participation in Switch Off Day on December 20th and offers a personalized plan to strike a balance between relationships and digital exposure.
